Clunky twist grip or Rapid Fire shifters - usually with an unnecessary shift indicator - are not everyone's cup of tea. They look clunky on the graceful city runabouts and the rubber of the twist grips often gets sticky from hand sweat. In the cold season, when riding with gloves, they are impractical. Thumb shifters are the better choice here. Microshift now offers elegant Shimano-compatible thumb shifters. Indexed on the right for 9- or 10-speed derailleurs.
